Leading Sire, Treasured Too, Laid to Rest in Georgia

The 1991 APHA World Champion Racehorse, three-time champion and currently #6 lifetime leading sire, Treasured Too, has been laid to rest at the Seven Sundays Ranch in Folkston, Ga., according to owners Larry and Linda Browning. He passed away Jan. 27, 2010 from an apparent heart attack.

The loud-colored bay tobiano stallion sired by Easy Jet Too and out of Treasure Glass AQHA was an accomplished racehorse, winning 19 races, including 8 stakes races. He won six of those stakes races as a three-year-old. In 1991 he won the APHA National Championship Maturity, the Trail of Tears Handicap, the Pepsi Paint and Appaloosa Stakes, the PSBA Derby, the Lorelei Paint Derby and the Red River Paint Maturity. In 1992 as a four-year-old, he again won the APHA National Championship Maturity as well as the Oklahoma Paint Maturity. His total earnings were $75,657.59 and his top speed index was 103. In his final race on May 23, 1992, he won an allowance race at Remington Park, finishing with a perfect 100 speed index for the 350 yard race.

After a successful race career, he was highly sought-after as a sire of race-bred Paint horses. In 1997 he bred the most mares in Paint racing history, with 204 mares bred in a single year, a distinction still held today. He sired a total of 591 foals including 281 starters, 106 winners, 13 Superior earners and 108 ROM earners. Those offspring included six racing champions, 14 stakes winners and 25 stakes placed runners. The earnings of his offspring total $1,399,379.48 to date. His most successful offspring was Carols Treasure, a multiple champion racehorse and earner of over $165,000 on the track.

He was also a successful barrel racing sire, including the 2006 and 2008 APHA World Champion barrel horse Rocknroll Treasure. Other notable barrel horses by Treasured Too include three-time barrel champions Sadie Go Seekum and Treasured Outdoor, barrel champions Ima Tonto Too and Treasure Hunter and futurity champion Mordis.

Treasured Too’s last year in the breeding shed was 2009, so there is still more to come from this outstanding sire. His speed, grit, and legacy will live on in his many offspring and he will be missed by many, most of all by the Brownings.
